Why is Polyester POY so important in fabric manufacturing despite its low tensile strength?

1. Softness due to partially oriented properties
Polyester POY has low tensile strength mainly because its molecular chains are not fully oriented, resulting in a loose fiber structure. This property makes Polyester POY softer and more comfortable to the touch than fully stretched fibers (FOY) with higher strength, making it suitable for fabrics that require a soft touch, such as underwear, sportswear and home textiles.

Softness is essential for the comfort of fabrics, especially in clothing that is worn next to the body. The softness of Polyester POY ensures the affinity of the fabric when it contacts the skin, which can effectively improve the wearing experience of the fabric. Even with its low tensile strength, it can still meet the comfort needs of a large number of consumers, which is one of the reasons why it is irreplaceable in fabric manufacturing.

2. Excellent processing performance and customizability
Polyester POY is not fully oriented, so it is easier to process than fully stretched fibers (FOY). It can produce different types of polyester fibers, especially fully drawn fibers (FDY) and twisted stretch yarns (DTY), through further stretching, twisting, deformation and other processing processes. This feature makes Polyester POY a basic material for the production of high-performance fibers and special functional textiles.

3. High elasticity and fluffiness due to low strength
Although Polyester POY has low tensile strength, this feature makes it perform well in fabrics that require elasticity and fluffiness. Through subsequent processing, Polyester POY can be made into fibers with good elasticity and resilience, which are commonly found in sportswear, stretch fabrics and bedding. The softness and elasticity of these fabrics are derived from the low strength and high plasticity of Polyester POY.

In addition, low-strength POY fibers also have good compression resistance and can form a loose fiber structure in the fabric, resulting in better breathability and comfort. This is why Polyester POY is often used to produce textiles that require high elasticity and comfort.

4. Cost-effectiveness and market demand
As an intermediate product of polyester fiber, Polyester POY has a relatively low production cost. Since it is not fully stretched during the production process, the production process is relatively simple, which can effectively reduce energy consumption and production costs. This makes the cost advantage of Polyester POY in mass production more obvious.

Compared with fully stretched fiber (FOY) with higher tensile strength, the low cost of Polyester POY makes it an ideal choice for mass production of low to medium strength application products. In the context of gradually diversified market demand, Polyester POY can meet the production of fabrics with different functional requirements through flexible processing methods, which further promotes its widespread application in the textile industry.

5. Versatility and environmental protection
The waste generated by Polyester POY during the processing process can be recycled, which helps promote the sustainable development and environmental protection process of the textile industry. In addition, Polyester POY can be subsequently functionally processed according to different needs, such as waterproof, breathable, UV protection, etc. These functional processing makes Polyester POY not only suitable for daily textiles, but also can meet the demand for functional textiles in professional fields, such as sports equipment, outdoor clothing, medical textiles, etc.
