The production process of Polyester POY includes the following key steps:
Melting and extrusion: First, the polyester pellets are heated to a high temperature to melt them. Then, the molten polyester is extruded through a spinneret to form fibers.
Partial stretching: Unlike fully drawn fibers (FOY), Polyester POY is only partially stretched during the spinning process, and the stretching ratio is usually lower than that of fully oriented fibers. This process partially orients the molecular chains, so that the fibers maintain a certain degree of softness and processability during subsequent processing.
Cooling and winding: After the stretching is completed, the fibers will be quickly cooled and wound into yarns. These POY fibers are the basic raw materials for the production of fibers such as FDY and DTY.
Features and advantages of Polyester POY
Lower tensile strength: Since the molecular chains of Polyester POY are only partially oriented during the production process, they are not fully arranged, resulting in relatively low tensile strength. This makes POY more suitable for applications with lower strength requirements.
Higher softness and elasticity: Compared with the stronger fully drawn fiber, Polyester POY has stronger softness and elasticity. This property makes it widely used in fabric production, especially in textiles that require soft touch or elastic design.
Easy to further process: Due to its partially oriented characteristics, Polyester POY can be further stretched, twisted or deformed during processing. Therefore, it is an important raw material for the production of other polyester fibers such as FDY (fully drawn fiber) and DTY (twisted stretch yarn).
Application areas of Polyester POY
Production basis of FDY and DTY: Polyester POY is a precursor material for the production of fully drawn fiber (FDY) and twisted stretch yarn (DTY). FDY has higher tensile strength through further stretching and is often used to make fabrics that require higher strength; while DTY has good elasticity and fluffiness through twisting and curling, and is widely used in elastic fabrics and comfort fabrics.
Textile manufacturing: POY is widely used in the production of fabrics, especially in fabrics that require higher softness, such as underwear, sportswear, home textiles, etc. Its high softness and low strength make it an ideal material for these products.
Nonwoven fabric applications: In addition to traditional textile production, Polyester POY can also be used in the production of nonwoven fabrics. The wide application of nonwoven fabrics covers many fields such as medical, hygiene, and filtration. The application of POY in these fields is mainly due to its easy processing and molding characteristics.
Special functional fabrics: Through subsequent processing, Polyester POY can also be used to produce functional fabrics, such as waterproof, breathable, antibacterial and other functional fabrics. This type of fabric is widely needed in sports equipment, outdoor clothing, and high-performance workwear.
