Does wearing polyester yarn clothing easily cause dampness?

Wearing polyester yarn clothing may create a damp sensation in certain situations. This is mainly because polyester yarn has relatively poor moisture absorption. Polyester is a synthetic fiber that contains a large number of ester groups in its molecular structure. These ester groups have hydrophobicity, resulting in weak water absorption on the surface of polyester fibers. Experimental data shows that the moisture regain of polyester is only about 0.4%, much lower than natural fibers such as cotton and linen. Therefore, in humid environments or when the human body sweats heavily, polyester yarn clothing may not be able to absorb and dissipate moisture in a timely manner, resulting in a sense of dampness.
However, it should also be noted that polyester yarn clothing does not always feel damp in all situations. Its excellent washability and easy maintenance make polyester yarn clothing widely used in clothing and industrial products. In certain specific occasions, such as clothing that requires rapid drying or maintaining a certain degree of shape stability, the advantages of polyester yarn are even more apparent.
In addition, with the development of technology, many manufacturers will process polyester fabrics to improve their moisture absorption and sweat wicking performance. For example, by modifying fibers or using moisture wicking agents, the hydrophilicity and quick drying of polyester fabrics can be improved, thereby reducing the dampness generated during wearing.
